Fascinatingly, “WWIII,” which was written by Jimmy Whispers in 2016, now mirrors our present day existence in 2023. A world war already in progress under our noses. We sit docile in our homes glued to our screens, distracted from climate change, violence, and a fast-approaching technological singularity: Memes are "just words on top of pictures" / TV is "just one big long commercial" / Young couples question “How can we raise a child just to watch them die in this world?”
“WWIII” finds Jimmy operating in an entirely different role than his recent full-length The Search for God. While the latter was created mostly with two vintage synths, a drum machine, and a busted karaoke machine, “WWIII” was recorded in a studio with Jimmy as a guitar-playing singer-songwriter alongside an all-star cast. Jonathan Rado (Weyes Blood, Father John Misty, Whitney), produced the track and also played drums and piano, Macie Stewart (Finom, FKA Ohmme) added strings, John Anderson (Girls) played guitar, and it was mixed by Jarvis Taveniere (Woods, Purple Mountains, Waxahatchee).
